HOUSING AMAZON PARROTS

Our breeding aviaries are situated in a bank of cages and are the standard size and design we use with all of our Yellow-headed Amazons. They are suspended and measure 4 metres long x 1.2 metres wide x 1.2 metres high. Each aviary is separated by a solid partition to prevent the birds from being distracted by or focusing on their neighbours. Distribution can tend to be a problem when the birds are relocated to the breeding aviaries as it is at this time that the birds become aggressive or what some may describe as quite hormonal.

The front half of the aviary roof is constructed of a heavy gauge wire allowing the birds to bathe in the rain and take in sunlight. A sprinkler has also been installed at the front and is particularly useful for hot days. The rear half of the aviary is clad with Colorbond™ corrugated or sheet metal which gives the birds a chance to escape heavy rain or windy conditions. The Z-shaped nestbox we use is located on the back of the aviary in the corridor to allow us easy access.
